Google is rolling out new features to help users verify information and understand different perspectives within search results.
These features include:
- “About this result” expansion: This feature, launched in 2021, provides information about the sources and sites in Google Search. It is now expanding to all languages. By clicking the three dots next to most search results, users can learn more about where the information is coming from and how Google determined it would be useful for their query. This feature helps users make more informed decisions about the sites they want to visit and the results that may be most helpful to them.
- Perspectives: This new feature displays a carousel below the “Top Stories” section, showcasing insights from journalists, experts, and other voices relevant to the searched topic. It aims to provide diverse perspectives and will be available in English for US users on desktop and mobile devices.
- About this author: This feature allows users to learn more about the background and experience of authors whose content is displayed in Google Search. It will be available globally in English search results and in the Perspectives carousel for US users.
- Easier access to “About this page“: Users can now enter a website’s URL in Google Search to access information about the site, such as its description, what others have said about it, and recent coverage.
- Content advisories for rapidly evolving topics: Google Search will show content advisories when results are changing quickly or lack high-quality information. These advisories will be expanded to include German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Japanese languages in the coming months.
These features aim to enhance user trust, promote diverse perspectives, and help users make more informed decisions about the websites they visit.
